Space Awareness Summer School 2016
13 January 2016

Space Awareness organises a Summer School for teachers, from 3-8 July 2016 in Attica, Greece. The Summer School provides educators with simple tips and advice that can help them to teach topics related to space science in schools.

The objectives of the summer school are:

  • Facilitate teachers in introducing their students to space related careers and facilitate them to develop key skills through playful and engaging activities, tailored to the school curricula.
  • To acquaint participants with activities on contemporary space related subjects and showcase how they can be used in the science classroom.
  • Introduce STEM teachers to inquiry teaching and learning approaches that meet the needs of different types of students and give them the opportunity to use such techniques.
  • Provide participants with training on teaching strategies that will allow them to manage diverse classrooms and promote gender balance.
  • Present ICT tools to teachers for use in the science classroom.

The repertoire of resources, tools and activities that will be presented at the Summer School in combination with the hands-on and minds-on activities will help the participants to integrate them in their school environment and everyday science teaching practice. They will also learn how to implement their own work into educational repositories and share it within a European community of practice. Participants of the Summer School will be part of a community to exchange and share ideas, experiences, concerns and educational resources with fellow teachers across Europe. They will also be introduced to on-line learning repositories, portals and educational metadata.

Space Awareness

The Summer School is organised in the context of the Space Awareness project. This project aims to use the excitement of space exploration in order to raise students’ interest in science and technology as well as space related careers and stimulate their sense of global citizenship. To achieve that, the project is offering a wide range of tools and activities to inspire children, teenagers, and teachers to be involved in space related activities.
