Wonderpassport in the Netherlands
21 September 2015

Universe Awareness is a partner of the Wonderpassport, a tool to engage primary school children from 4-12 years old with nature, science and technology. With the passport, children can do activities in science centres, museums and Leiden University, to earn islands for an online Wonderworld. In the Wonderworld, kids can get more information, see pictures of the activity, and do games. The goal for the children is to earn as much islands as possible.

The passport will be launched on Wednesday 23 September during the Science and Technology Academy in Leiden. Frank de Wit, city councillor of education, sport and sustainability, will receive the first passport. During the Academy, the partners that are involved in the project will show their good practices to primary school teachers about inquiry-based learning.

The Dutch UNAWE team will provide two workshops about astronomy. The first one will be about the seasons on Earth. With Sun and Earth models, the teachers will learn how to use simple materials to visualise and explain the reason for the seasons to children. The second workshop will be focussed on distances in the Solar System.

The passport is an initiative of several institutes in Leiden, the Netherlands: Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Hogeschool Leiden, Hortus botanicus Leiden, Museum Boerhaave, Technolab Leiden, Junior Science Lab, UNAWE and Wetenschapsknooppunt Leiden.
