The International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL) was officially opened last week at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. The Opening Ceremony began with a screening of the official IYL trailer and a video-message by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon.
The trailer was created by Nickolas Barris, and is based on his documentary film 'Einstein's Light' which will be released September 2015. The documentary explores how scientific imagination and innovation advance the frontiers of knowledge using the work of Albert Einstein and Hendrik Lorentz as examples.
The International Year of Light is a global initiative that will highlight the importance of light and optical technologies for daily life, the future and the development of society by providing solutions to global challenges relating to topics such as energy, education, communication and health.
