ESA's Mascot has a New Name, Say Hello to Paxi!
23 May 2013

The mascot of the European Space Agency's Education website finally has a name: everyone say hello to “Paxi”! Kids from all over the world joined the “Name Our Mascot” competition to come up with the perfect name for this little green fellow and the winner was 7 year old Sara from Spain. Congratulations, Sara! She picked this Earth name for him because it sounds like an extraterrestrial name, and it is similar to the word “Paz” which means “peace” in Spanish.

Over 500 suggestions by children between 4 and 12 years old from all over the world sent in their suggestions. Out of these 500 names judges selected a Top 10 short-list of the catchiest names, all of who went home with a prize. The final winner was decided by Luca Parmitano, an Italian astronaut who will be making his first trip to the International Space Station this month!

Soon you'll be able to follow Paxi's adventures on the ESA website, Facebook and Twitter pages, so keep your eye our for him!
