The Learning Development Institute and UNAWE Indonesia jointly organise the fifth Advanced International Colloquium on Building the Scientific Mind. The Bosscha Observatory in Lembang, Indonesia, will host the conference in a rustic and beautiful landscape, which sets the scene for a fruitful colloquium, themed "Science and Technology in the Service of Beauty and Harmony". In the last week of May 2013 participants from around the world will join in discussions and activities on numerous topics, all of which are based around the theme of integrating nature with our increasing technological society. And what better setting could there be for this than the surroundings of a dormant to mildly active volcano, Tangkuban Perahu, which lies just north of Lembang. It will set the stage for lively discussions on the wise adoption of technologies to both protect ourselves from the dangers of nature, as well as protect nature from us.
Between 60 and 70 people will be able to take part in the 5 day programme, that includes subjects like:
- The trans disciplinary nature of the scientific mind.
- Philosophy and history of science.
- Noteworthy initiatives, such as UNAWE.
- Human values, aesthetics, and the scientific mind.
The conference in Indonesia will be the fifth after the previous four Building the Scientific Mind colloquia, respectively held in The Hague, the Netherlands (2005), Vancouver, Canada (2007), Cairo, Egypt (2009) and Stellenbosch, South Africa (2011). This video gives an impression of the atmosphere at the last conference. The same type of enthusiasm is to be expected at the next gathering.
