The MEDEA Awards, which recognise and promote excellence in the production and pedagogical design of media-rich learning resources, is now accepting entries for its 2012 competition.
The Awards were established in 2007, at a time when there was a surge in the production of media-rich educational materials, to further promote innovation in the sector. “The pedagogical vision is clear: it is only when video and audio are routine components of education and online learning, that we will have an educational environment that reflects the media-rich world in which our learners now live,” says the MEDEA Awards on its website.
In total, there are five award categories. Of particular note for the EU-UNAWE network, the MEDEA Award for User-Generated Educational Material 2012 honours the best entry submitted by educators, students, learners, parents or individuals from all types of educational institutes, including primary schools. And the Special Prize for European Collaboration in the Creation of Educational Material 2012 is specifically for projects that involve European cross-border collaboration.
All of the finalists will be invited to take part in the Media & Learning Conference 2012, which will be held 14-15 November 2012 in Brussels, Belgium. The MEDEA Awards Ceremony will take place during the conference, where the winners will be awarded with the MEDEA Statuette, commemorative medals and prizes of hardware and software.
Applications must be submitted by 17 September 2012. Entry forms are available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Polish, but submissions are welcome in any language. For more information, please visit the website.
