UNAWE Iceland Honoured with Prestigious Awards
7 December 2011

UNAWE Iceland has recently been awarded for its excellent work in science communication and education. This award was presented by the Icelandic Center for Research and the Icelandic Ethical Humanist Society and included extra funding to continue UNAWE activities.

Over the past three years, UNAWE has developed many workshops and hands-on activities. These activities reached hundreds of families and fostered thrilling experiences that stimulated interest in Astronomy. UNAWE Iceland will continue inspiring and educating young children with the renewed resources that originated from this award . The prize money has already funded about 7,000 star maps, which have been distributed to 10 year old students across the country and in the near future, UNAWE Iceland is planning to distribute Earthballs to Icelandic primary schools.

A recent feature on UNAWE Iceland's website is the translation of the UNAWE astronomy news service, Space Scoop to Icelandic.
