On 9 November 2011, 25 teachers participated in the 2nd workshop for primary school teachers in the Netherlands in Arnhem. This workshop is a follow-up to the successful meeting organised this summer in Groningen. This time the introduction to Astronomy was done by Gijs Nelemans, astronomer at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. After that the teachers joined one of the three hands-on workshops: 'Day and Night on Planets', 'The Structure of the Universe' and 'Solar and Lunar Eclipses'.
For the first time in an EU-UNAWE workshop in the Netherlands, teachers visited the mobile planetarium from NOVA (Dutch Research School for Astronomy). Teachers were very impressed by the educational value of this tool. In the evening the teachers observed the Moon, Jupiter and its four moons with optical telescopes, which were made available by the amateur astronomers of the local observatory “Presikheaven”.
