Space agencies around the world (including the European Space Agency and the American NASA) are inviting thousands of schoolchildren to join the international educational challenge called Mission X: Train Like an Astronaut. This mission uses space explorers as models to promote regular exercise and healthy nutrition among young people worldwide.
Teams of students aged 8–12 around the world will practice scientific reasoning and teamwork as well as learn the principles of healthy eating and exercise and compete for points by completing training modules on bones, hydration and the importance of energy from food. They will also be part of physical trainings on strength, endurance, coordination, balance, spatial awareness and more.
After the six-week challenge, the winning schools will be announced by the Dutch ESA astronaut André Kuipers from the International Space Station.
