UNAWE is pleased to announce a partnership with the Mexico-based astronomy educational project Astropeques, which will help to improve the resources that are already available and to generate new concepts.
Alfredo Santillan and Liliana Hernández-Cervantes, from the Institute of Astronomy and the Computer Centre in the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), lead the Astropeques group.
Over the past three years , they have developed many innovative experiments and games that teach children about our Universe, with activities held in schools, museums and even shopping malls.
One of its most popular activities is the ‘Loteria Cósmica’ game, in which children have to identify many different types of celestial objects.
In another activity, children are asked to draw the Universe just like Galileo Galilei did more than 400 years ago and to share their drawings online with other children. You can see more activities created by Astropeques here.
