Next week from 4 to 10 October, the world will celebrate space during the World Space Week of 2017 with this year’s theme ‘Exploring New Worlds in Space’. Last year, the World Space Week inspired more than 2700 astronomy events in 86 participating countries, a record number of activities.
Anyone, from anywhere in the world, can create a World Space Week event. This year's topic will inspire event organizers to set up exciting space exploration events at schools, universities, science centres, planetaria, astronomy clubs, companies, and museums. The theme can be used as a guideline, but any registered space-related activities are accepted as an official World Space Week event.
The theme of this year explores the question of where humankind should explore next. “By appealing to the human nature of exploration and discovery, this year’s theme could lead to the biggest World Space Week ever”, says Executive Director, Dr. Timiebi Aganaba-Jeanty.
World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition. Since 1999 United Nations General Assembly declaration, the event takes place every year on 4 to 10 October.
