UNAWE Student Ambassadors Reach Out with the Philippine Toy Library
29 June 2015

Last 2015, a team of UNAWE student ambassadors in the Philippines, in cooperation with the Philippine Toy Library organized a simple outreach program for 20 children of Brgy. San Vicente, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

The program consisted of two simple lectures about astronomy followed by a storytelling and solar observation. The first lecture is about the Earth and the Moon. In this lecture, the children learned about the size and distance comparison of the Earth and the Moon, as well as the concept of rotation and revolution.

The second lecture is about the Solar System. In this lecture, student ambassador Norman Mascariñas talked about the different planets in the Solar System and the properties of each one.

Afterwards, a simple story telling about the Moon and the constellations were done. At the end of the lectures and storytelling, the children lined up to view the Sun through a telescope.

This was an outreach organized by student ambassadors Rheanne Jimeno, Precious Prestosa, Norman Mascariñas, and Chelsi Grace Mendoza, with the help of Mark Mendoza and Orville Felicano. All of them are members of University of the Philippines Astronomical Society.
